Teacher of the Year Award
I was honored and humbled to receive this award in June of 2017 from the students of the International School of Curacao. The students were asked to vote for a teacher who had made a direct impact on their lives. I was so surprised I hardly knew what to say!

An Open Letter to My Students
Dear Students,
I am looking forward to meeting you and working with you. I have worked hard over the course of several years in order to become your teacher. The most important idea I want you to know is that I accept you completely. The first thing I want you to know about my teaching style is that I am generous, kind, patient and forgiving. The best part of my professional career is working with you! We will make the most of our time together.
The second thing I want you to know about my teaching style is that you will be amazed at how much we will accomplish in our classroom! My teaching style depends on action and doing. You will not sit and listen to me speak for long periods of time before you are actively engaged in your coursework and your study. You may be surprised at first at the amount of work I expect you to produce. Soon, you will think nothing of it. Please don't worry. I know you can do what I ask of you. I come from a place where hard work and determination are highly valued and highly rewarded. Please read below for some personal facts about myself.
I am proud to be from South Dakota, which is in the upper Midwest of the United States of America. South Dakotans have a reputation for honesty and integrity. I embrace the pioneer spirit handed down by my forefathers. I have two master's degrees from a private university. I speak English and survival Korean. I have been married for 13 years. I am a late "thirty something". I play guitar to a high level. I have an interest in records and record players. I enjoy reading, running and cycling. I love to sit by my fireplace and read a book. My wife and I used to live on a lake.
Being from South Dakota, I probably have a different understanding of snow and wind than you do. One winter, the snow was higher than my roof. Also, wind will blow forty miles per hour at times and this is not unusual. That is about 64 kilometers per hour. South Dakotans don't really think about the wind very often. However, it is difficult not to think about the cold. For about six months, my home area is in winter season. At the coldest point, we will experience temperatures down to -20 Fahrenheit or -28 Celsius. Thankfully, during these extreme cold periods, the wind is usually silent. Our normal temperatures for winter are about 0 Fahrenheit or -17 Celsius.
Again, I look forward to meeting you and working with you. You are at a very exciting time in your life. Remember to make the most of each day.
Regards,
Mr. McGeough
