Bicycles
Bicycles occupy the same space in my mind as music and friendship. Here are some snaps of bicycles I have ridden all around the world. One of my all time favorites, pictured above, is a 1959 Schwinn Speedster, which I found being used as a garden decoration alongside someone's barn near my home in South Dakota. The bicycle had been out in the rain and snow for decades. Everything was rusted together. I spent a good amount of time taking it apart and restoring it. Finding tires for it was not easy. However, all of the parts were still good. The older man I bought it from had received it as a Christmas present in 1959, when he was 10 years old. I think he sold it to me because he knew I would give it a new life, which I was pleased to do. This bicycle is built for a 10 to 14 year old, and you can see my nephew enjoying it in another picture below. I was able to maintain all the original parts except the handle grips, which had completely deteriorated. I actually commuted with this bicycle for a few months. It was surprisingly comfortable.
